Overviewabout the New Administrative Capital

The New Administrative Capital is the latest major residential and investment project announced in March 2015 by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC). The major reason for the new capital city is to relieve congestion in Cairo, which is already one of the world's most crowded cities, and it is growing rapidly. Greater Cairo’s population is set to grow from 18 million people to 40 million people by 2050. It will help to strengthen and diversify the country’s economic potential by creating new places to live, work and visit. It is also scheduled to move the presidential headquarters, ministries, embassies, parliament and all government institutions to it within this year.

The Administrative Capital will include many high-end residential neighborhoods and service cities, as well as many huge investments, companies and international banks. That is why a huge budget, nearly US 45 billion as estimated, has been allocated for investment in this great economic project, which will be a haven to attract investment. Also, the city would be the first smart city in Egypt to use all modern technology to provide comfort and well-being for its residents, and to ensure sustainable development of the Administrative Capital without disturbing its system.

Area of the Capital and its divisions

The area of ​​the Administrative Capital is nearly equal to the entire area of ​​ Singapore. The constructions in the project have been divided into three phases, where 40,000 acres have been allocated for the first phase, and 70% of it has already been completed. This is a very standard time and an indication of the high demand by the developers. As for the second phase, it is on 47,000 acres of area. The last phase is on 97,000 acres of area, with a total area of ​​approximately 170,000 acres.

The project will depend on renewable and solar energies, in addition to allocating most of the administrative capital's area for parks and green spaces in order to provide fresh air and a healthy environment. There is 14,000 acres, out of 40,000 acres totally, will be allocated for green spaces and is called the Green Belt, which is the area of ​​the first phase in addition to Capital Park. The most important projects and landmarks of the Administrative Capital that make it a unique city

The Green River:a huge arterial park running through the middle of the Administrative Capital and passing by all its neighborhoods. It is 35 kilometers long, and extends from the Middle Ring Road to the Regional Ring in the heart of the Administrative Capital. The Green River will be divided into three parts: the first part is for trees that imitate nature, the second part is free public gardens, and the third part is gardens with entertainment centers, cultural activities and a children's amusement park.

Al-Fattah Al-Alim Mosque, the largest mosque in the world: the mosque was built on ​​106 acres of area and its length is about 3,000 square meters. The mosque includes a function hall and a Quran memorization house. The mosque was designed to accommodate about 17,000 people, and has four minarets and 22 domes. It is located at the entrance to the Administrative Capital on the Ring Road.

The Cathedral of the Nativity in Cairo, the largest cathedral in the Middle East: it is located south of theGreen Riverand east of the fairgrounds. It was designed according to the latest architectural styles on ​​approximately 15 acres of area to accommodate 8,200 people. It includes a museum of the history of the Coptic Church, a papal headquarters, a service building and administrative offices. It actually opened on January 6, 2019 on the Christmas Eve.

Foreign universities:the Administrative Capital will include a complex of foreign universities, which includes all academic majors and the best academic professors to provide the highest level of the university education. The complex will include approximately 12 foreign universities, including the Canadian University that has already been established on ​​30 acres of area, in addition to the American, British and German Universities, Gulf University and a branch of Prince Edward University in cooperation with Mont Clare University and Arizona.

International schools:It is planned to establish approximately fifty diverse schools in the Administrative Capital, most of which are international and private language schools, four Japanese schools, in addition to the experimental schools to serve all classes. Nine schools are already being implemented in the residential neighborhood, which are School of Jesus Heart, Sahara International School, ICI School, Egypt SBV Limited School, Choueifat Schools, Al Manar House School, Knowledge International School, Al Bayan Educational School, and Misr British International School.

Capital Park:a large central park on 1,000 acres of area. It's roughly twice the size of Central Park in New York.

A new international airport: The Administrative Capital will include a new international airport on ​​approximately 16 kilometers of area. It will be near the convention center and the exhibition city in order to support tourism and travel. The airport will serve residents of eastern Cairo, El Shorouk, Heliopolis and Badr cities. The airport will have the capacity to receive charter flights, and will include 8 car parks, 45 buildings and an observation tower. The airport will be equipped with the latest systems of securing and operating airports, thermal surveillance cameras, and systems of monitoring and detecting bags using the "X-ray".

Constructions in the New Administrative Capital will be undertaken by a joint stock company, in which thirteen members participate. The most important of them are the New Urban Communities Authority, the National Service Projects Authority and theArmed Forces Land ProjectsAgency (AFLPA). The joint stock company's capital is approximately EGP 6 billion and has more than 45 contracting and construction companies. Most important companies are Concorde, which implements nearly 2,000 housing units, Petrojet, which implements 1,000 housing units, and Hisham Talaat Mostafa, which implements 2,100 housing units. However, Orascom and Hassan Allam Sons companies are responsible for implementing the project's infrastructure.

Knowledge City: it will be established on ​​approximately 300 acres of area using the latest advanced technology, to include centers for research, science, entrepreneurship, computer and software fields. Also, it will include residential units for students, hotels for expatriates and conference centers. It is expected to provide more than 50 thousand job opportunities for young people.

City of Culture and Arts: it is a dedicated city to culture and fine arts, including galleries, theaters, cinemas and a new opera house. The city will be designed according to the finest architectural styles that combine Egyptian heritage, sophistication and modern civilization.

Medical City:a complete medical city will be established to provide the best medical services to the residents of the Administrative Capital. The city will include more than 600 hospitals that equipped with the latest and best medical devices and the latest technology.

Sports City:it will include sports clubs and gyms that equipped with the best and latest equipment, training centers for all types of sports, and swimming pools for children and adults.

Expo City or Fairground:the largest exhibition city will be established on ​​500 acres of area. 20% of the constructions have been completed, and the city is expected to be fully implemented within the next three years.

Al Massa Hotel:an upscale and luxurious hotel that was built by the Engineering Authority for the Armed Forces on ​​10 acres of area. It is located only nine kilometers from Khan Al Khalili and Al-Mu'izz Street. It was actually opened in 2017.

The New Administrative Capital Services

The Residential District:the residential neighborhood in the Administrative Capital will provide nearly half a million of residential units for sale, which will be built within over twenty residential neighborhoods. 75% of the first phase, which includes 8 neighborhoods from R1 to R8 in the third residential neighborhood, has already been completed. The electromechanical works are in progress and the neighborhood will include approximately 19,500 residential units, 328 villas, 157 twin houses, in addition to 64 mixed buildings.

The residential neighborhood also includes infrastructure that designed using the finest types of materials and the latest internationally used methods, to provide comfort to the population. The works are carried out under the supervision of the largest companies, namely Orascom, and the residential buildings and villas are constructed with very elegant and classy architectural designs. All government institutions will be moved to the Administrative Capital this year, in addition to the embassy neighborhood, to which all ministries will be transferred and allocated to serve diplomatic representatives.

Financial District:a huge economic center will be established on ​​one million and 700,000 square meters to include major international companies, international banks, more than 12 commercial complexes, and 5 hotel buildings, as well as the Central Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Stock Exchange.

The Iconic Tower:a tower that will be implemented by China Exchanges Services Company Limited (CESC) to be the highest tower in Africa and will be 385 meters high. Work on the tower has begun in February 2019, and will include a hotel, apartments, administrative offices, an electronics market, a theater, an ice rink and a helipad.

Internal road networks:an internal road network of approximately 650 km long is being implemented and paved. The road width will ranges from 90 to 125 meters, and the minimum road width is 60 meters to ensure ease of traffic and avoid congestion. Work is also underway on the two northern bin Zayed axes, which will include six tunnels, the bin Zayed south axis, which will include three tunnels, and the bin Zayed Bridge, which will be 155 meters long and approximately 70 meters in width.

As for the roads that will connect the Administrative Capital with Cairo, in addition to the Regional Ring Road, the Middle Ring Road and Bin Zayed Corridor, a 30-kilometer road will be constructed to link the Administrative Capital with Zahraa Maadi, and another approximately 40 km long road linking it with Badr City will be constructed as well.

The Monorail Train:it is an unprecedented boom in transportation projects in Egypt. It is a monorail train and is planned to pass by 20 stations, starting from the Marshal Tantawi station, passing through the 90thstreet in the Fifth Settlement, until it reaches the New Administrative Capital. A second line of the train will also be constructed linking the Administrative Capital with the New Alamein City, passing through the 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed cities in 35 minutes only. The train is expected to carry approximately one million passengers per day.

The electric train: it connects the New Administrative Capital with Madinat El Salam and the Tenth of Ramadan City. It is a new project that serves the transportation network of the Administrative Capital. The implementation of the project will start after obtaining support from the Chinese Export-Import Bank. The train is scheduled to pass by 11 stations, and transport 500,000 passenger daily.

A security and control center:the administrative capital will include a control center, by installing at least 6,000 surveillance cameras, electronic gates, security and guarding, to ensure the highest levels of safety for the its residents.

Water stations:there are three lines for supplying the Administrative Capital with water. These are the lines that carry water from the Nile River, the 10th of Ramadan water line, and the New Cairo water line, in addition to five tanks with a capacity of 20 thousand cubic meters each.

Plants for desalination and solar energy generation: the plants will be established to desalinate and purify sewage and Red Sea water for reuse in gardens and green spaces irrigation, to avoid wasting water of the river Nile. 70% of the building surfaces will be allocated to generate solar energy so as to be renewable electricity sources, and to ensure that power outage in the Administrative Capital will never happen.

A power station using the latest technology:a giant power station was designed by Siemens German Company at a cost of 2 billion euros. The plant produces approximately 4,800 megawatts with the latest used technology: air cooling using 12 fans. This plant is the first of its kind in the Middle East to be designed and operated with this technology, away from water sources as usual.
